On Thurs. 3/27, Curry J. Hackett joins AADHum for workshop & talk!
We are thrilled to share that on March 27th, transdisciplinary artist, designer, and educator Curry J. Hackett will visit AADHum! At 1pm, Hackett will give an image and video generation workshop in NarraSpaceXR using free AI tools. At 5pm, Hackett and Dr. Jayson Porter will join AADHum for a talk about his work with artificial intelligence, eco-poetics, and Black life at Busboys & Poets Hyattsville.
A trained architect, Hackett focuses on Black vernacular architecture — how communities use their own cultural and material resources to create and keep a sense of place. Currently, he is also experimenting with using AI and speculative design to visualize new pasts and futures, for example hair salons in botanical gardens and Black women from Alabama building a skyscraper with a quilted façade. Hackett is also known for several public art pieces around the DMV, including the DC High Water Mark Project at the Wharf, the Swept Yard Installation, and a bronze medal on the Howard Theatre Walk of Fame!
For folks who see play and experimentation as critical avenues for ideation, scholarship, and learning, we are thrilled for his visit — and we hope you are too! Join us on March 27th, and for more on his work, visit his studio website, Wayside Studio.
