LiteraryDJ at NextNOW Fest 2026
Andrew W. Smith, Visiting Assistant Research Professor of Digital Humanities & Digital Studies at MITH & AADHum, presents LiteraryDJ, an interactive creative research platform inspired by remix culture and DJing.
LiteraryDJ transforms literary texts and archives into material for experimentation and play. Drawing on natural language processing, data visualization, physical computing, and emerging technologies, the project reimagines computational methods through the familiar language of turntables, mixers, and other creative interfaces.
Explore the writings of Frederick Douglass, Emily Dickinson, and other historical figures in new ways. Spin turntables to synthesize poetry with Markov chains, experiment with quantum computing & word clouds, encounter literature through augmented reality, and get hands-on with custom keyboards and other experimental interfaces.
