Andrew W. Smith, visiting assistant research professor of digital humanities and digital studies at MITH & AADHum at the University of Maryland, will discuss their project LiteraryDJ, a creative research platform for digital remixing at the intersection of literature, digital humanities, and interactive design.

Inspired by the practices and interfaces of DJing, LiteraryDJ treats remix as a method for exploring, interpreting, and recombining literary texts and archival collections. The project brings together natural language processing, data visualization, and other computational methods in an experimental, interactive environment. The presentation will consider remix as a mode of interpretation, the role of playful interfaces in scholarly research, and accessible ways for scholars and artists to leverage computational methods to engage literary archives.
